Research

Our work focuses attention on the intellectual organisation of business information and the role of information policy in different settings. In doing so, our aim is to present a frame of reference for conceptualising business information in terms of its policy, design, management and assurance implications.

Information policy

This area of research focuses on the strategies and policies that assist in the management of information over its entire lifecycle and across the extended enterprise. We have specific interests in:

  • social, political and economic challenges in policy development;
  • decision rights and located accountabilities; and
  • policy process in terms of how it is constructed, mobilised and made actionable within and between organisations.

Information management

This area of research focuses on the management of information products and services. We are concerned with information resources as both an organisational asset and as evidence of business activity. We have specific interests in:

  • strategic information management;
  • methodologies for information auditing and information mapping;
  • metadata implementation and management in practice;
  • information service development; and
  • legal requirements for information and content management.

Information design

This area focuses on the design of useable and useful information products. We are specifically interested in:

  • information design methodologies;
  • digital content analysis and evaluation;
  • developments in metadata and markup languages; and
  • standards for information representation and interoperability.

Information assurance

This area focuses on assurance processes, control designs and the management of information risks. We are specifically interested in:

  • information assurance methodologies and practices in the public and private sector
  • developments in risk management approaches, risk intelligence and the performance and evaluation of risk management practices
  • control designs, incorporating policies, frameworks, methods, technologies and people
  • legal, ethical and professional aspects of information assurance and governance
