About the IPPRG

The focus of our work is information itself. The importance of information for and about organisations is now receiving greater attention due to the transformative effects of information and communication technologies (ICTs), business continuity issues related to natural and man made disasters, recent high profile corporate collapses and subsequent legal mandates. These focus attention on the need for effective strategies, policies and practices that assist in the governance of information over its entire lifecycle.

The development of information policies and practices is situated within a complex and changing business information landscape consisting of multiple strategic objectives, compliance mandates, stakeholders, documentary forms and diverse information systems. As a consequence there is still much uncertainty about how we manage the multiplicity of information and information flows within and between organisations. For example, who represents what, and on behalf of whom and how does this vary in different contexts?

Our Goals

  • To assist organisations manage complex information landscapes more effectively;
  • To establish a community of inquiry involving representatives from relevant academic and professional groups;
  • To investigate the interwoven social and technical dimensions of information policy, management, design and assurance; and
  • To contribute to the redefinition of theoretical imperatives and the advancement of theory about information policy and practice.
